I Got a Mattress at ALDI? Review of Huntington Home Memory Foam Queen Mattress

--Update for June 2017 - still loving our Aldi mattress and it's wearing well. (3 years old and no problems)
***See update for July 2015 at the bottom of the post***
I know this sounds strange to buy a mattress from a grocery store and I have reserved posting about this until I had a month to decide if I liked the mattress or not...but here it goes! I bought my new mattress at a grocery store and I LOVE IT!

My last mattress was a pillow-top Englander mattress that my parents bought me as a college graduation present to help me furnish my first apartment. My husband and I have slept on that thing for 12 years and we had flipped it, rotated it, and flipped it again trying to postpone what I was sure was going to be a $1000 purchase to get a mattress we could agree on. So when I was reading that ALDI was going to offer a 10" memory foam for $199.99, we did a little research and decided to jump at it. At that price, we figured it would only have to last a year or two to feel like we got our money's worth.

The mattress comes in a big box that is kind of on wheels and I was able to fit the box in the back seat of my Nissan Altima with a little bit of graceful pushing and shoving. There is a sample of the material on the top of the box, but be aware that this is just the top three inches or so and not an example of the firmness of the mattress. The mattress is plastic wrapped in the box and once you cut the plastic, it takes on air and expands out into a queen size mattress. A note to purchasers: Make sure you have the mattress into the room it will be in before you cut off the plastic!

I prefer a pretty soft mattress but my husband would probably sleep on a board if he had the chance. This seems to be a nice compromise. The first few nights, I thought it was too firm, but I woke up without any neck or back aches which is a good thing for me. Over the next few weeks, it did its memory foam thing and I sink in a little more in my place in bed which is just perfect!

My one criticism is that even my deep-pocket sheets that fit my old pillow-top well are having a hard time getting all the way around this one. Overall, we are very happy with the mattress. Check back with me in 5 years and I will let you know how it is doing.

PS-I spotted a few at our west side Aldi still on the shelf in case you are in need of a new mattress.

***Update 7/23/15 - our one-year-old mattress is still as awesome as it was when I wrote the original post. It's holding up really well and we look forward to coming home to it after vacations sleeping on other mattresses.

  1. We purchased the same mattress at Aldi, and two days' later, went back and purchased another one for our spare room. We have had these mattresses for three years, now, and absolutely love them! Cannot find any fault with them at all. I am waiting for them to come back to Aldi this year (2015) because I am planning on purchasing two more for my son and for my mother. Great product/great deal! Betsy Bearden

    1. I don't think this would fit back in the box. Once you cut the plastic, it expands into a normal mattress and is really rigid.

  4. I'm curious to get feeback on how the mattress is holding up for those of you that have bought it. I'm contemplating buying one as my existing mattress is over 13 years old and incredibly uncomfortable. My local Aldi has 4 of these in stock so I think if I'm going to get one, I should do it soon as they may sell out and/or not stock them often

    1. Is it like the one that's selling now with what appears to be a gel-infused top? If so, is it cool and does it cut down on body heat? Many foam based mattresses have this problem - however, I haven't been able to find any description of the mattress.

      Thanks!

    2. Have had it for 6 years. Bought the one selling in 2010. Having had one of the first TempurPedic ones, in comparison the Aldi one feels quite soft. And it gets very hot at night. Not having anything similar to compare it to, (my colleagues who bought the same at the same time did not have experience with memory foam mattresses), it feels wonderful and still feels exactly the same after 6 years of us.

  8. Bought one of these today. Basically because I had bought an 8 inch mattress about 3 or 4 years ago at Aldi. I love that one its a different brand, and has a little bit more memory foam on the top. I believe I got that one on sale for $130 so this one was more expensive at 230 dollars.
I opened it up and gave it a test ride, seems almost identical to the other mattress which means I'm going to be very happy with it.

  10. Bought the 10" queenmemoryfoam mattress last year for our spare room. Everyone that has slept on it has commented that it is incredably comfortable. I bought one to replace our own mattress this year. It is awesome. I would love it if aldi would make a king size though. I really miss the extra roomyness of my king. I would also like to ask if a heated mattress pad can be used with this mattress as we have a large old farm house & have alwaysused one to keep our heating costs down at night.

  11. I looked for a bed and did research for a year. My main concern was sag. I tend to sleep in one spot on my side. Almost every mattress I read about talked about sagging. The last one I bought several years ago was an expensive name brand mattress that after just 2 weeks had indentations in it. So after reading about Aldi's bed in a box (Huntington home) I decided to just go get one and give it a try. I paid $229.00 for mine. I wanted a new foundation too so I actually ordered a queen box spring that also came in a box from Walmart and had it delivered to my house for $100.00. So for less than $350.00 I had a brand new bed. In June me and a friend did the unboxing of both, taking pictures and sharing our story. That very night I slept in it. The first night I thought it might be a bit too firm, but the thing is I awoke with no pain. And I didn't want to get out of bed. I was so use to sinking way in, and having to climb out of a sagging bed. I just laid there and I was so comfortable. Firm yet I could feel the foam. I don't do a lot of reviews, but I just wanted to tell everyone who is spending a lot of time trying to find a good mattress, and a mattress that I have slept on, in the same spot for almost 8 months now, this mattress has ZERO sag. It does not sleep hot, and I couldn't have made a better purchase.

    1. Just an update on mine. I love my bed and there is still no sagging. By far the best mattress I have ever owned. I'll soon be moving to a new house with a much bigger bedroom and I want a king size one. I have searched Huntington Home and stores like Walmart, Sam's, even target show up, and they all have beds in a box, but different brand names. I'm sure someone manufactures for multiple brand names, but I don't want to guess and be wrong so if anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them.

There are many benefits and unique features of memory foam mattress that puts it ahead from its contemporaries.

  16. Thanks for the thorough review! I picked up a king size Aldi mattress to replace my seven year old latex mattress (that cost thousands and was uncomfortable from pretty much day one... not my best purchase).

I've held off on opening the box until I could find some online reviews. Interestingly the major difference with the 2016 version is a *one* year warranty - but for $300 if I get a year's comfortable sleep out of it I'll be happy.

  17. Very good to know. We switched to a memory foam two years ago when my hips were killing me, joint pain. (Queen size at Amazon.com where it had mad great reviews and it was 430 bucks for a 12 inch, this one https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003CT37L0 .) It made such a difference in my comfort and pain. No more hip pain when sleeping.

I'm a pretty heavy gal --230 lbs-- so I worried about a "dent" like in my old spring mattress. Nope. Two years later and that memory foam is still a dream with no dent at all. Hubby sleeps way better, too.

So, I'm so happy Aldi's carries it. When we move and have a guest bedroom, I want to get one of those for the smaller bed and if I ever need a replacement, I'd rather try for the half-priced one at Aldi's. :D

Thank you for the reviews. We're new to Aldi's, so this blog is super fun to read and get info.

    1. Just check the flyers I guess. Where I am, the deal ended Wednesday the 16th but considering there are reviews on here from last year, some saying they bought theirs years ago, keep an eye out for the next sale. Or maybe email the company (Aldi) to see if they know when they will sell them again or if they can sell you one outright. (I wish we could call the stores too, believe me!) Good luck!

  27. I have fibromyalgia and have been having trouble sleeping on my 8 year old mattress that had a mattress pad AND a store bought memory foam topper on it. I saw the ad in Aldis flyer and thought it was for the next week and thought Id have a week to decide. Then I saw these reviews and then saw the ad expired that day! (I was already there shopping and didnt see the mattress). So I ran back up and it was the last one. I was VERY nervous considering my fibro pain but decided to try it without a mattress pad or the old memory foam topper. (I should have removed the topper from the other bed and tried it but always wanted a memory foam and considering the mattress was 8 years old, and the price was only $199, plus 30 days to try it out I HAD to go for it). Well initially it felt hard so was afraid I would wake with pain. (I also have back and neck issues). I awoke in the middle of the night uncomfortable and parts of me were numb. Became a tad nervous....But actually I awoke feeling pretty darn good actually! the second night too! My backhurts but thats normal so not sure I can blame the mattress. Tonight I may throw on the old mattress pad but I dont think my sheets will cover it since they JUST fit the mattress. Anyhow, I am extremely pleased and have 28 more days to try it. Not sure how I will jam it back in that box (which has only 3 wheels, lol) but Im hoping I wont have to do that. TY Aldi!

Thank you all for sharing your opinions and experiences. They help me make a great purchase. The mattress is firm, yet it holds you in the right places as you lay on it without that sinking feeling. No pressure on any of my joints make for a totally better night sleep. I wake up feeling no aches and pains, this is from a couple who have serious back conditions. I will certainly buy another one if they become available and have recommended several people to do so as well.

  46. Thank you all for your very helpful reviews that helped my husband and I decide to buy this mattress. We bought the queen sized mattress yesterday. It easily fit into our Chevy Trailblazer with back seat down. The box the mattress is packaged in is amazing, it has 4 full-rotation casters on the bottom and a suitcase type handle on the side. We had probably more fun than we should have rolling it down the aisle at Aldi and spinning it around in the parking lot. The mattress is packaged tightly in the box in vacuum sealed plastic, rolled and then sealed again in thick plastic. After removing the plastic, the mattress "inflated" to its full thickness in less than the hour the instructions claim. The top and sides of the mattress cover are a nice looking real fabric cover (not that papery stuff of cheap mattresses) and the bottom is a non slip fabric that seems to me will help hold the top sheet in when its tucked under the mattress. The cover can be removed as there is a plastic zipper on the underside. At first, there was a slight odor so I left the bed unmade hoping the smell would dissipate, it did after a few hours. Our deep pocket sheets fit fine. We slept on it last night and I have to say it was a bit firmer than we are used to. One review rated the firmness about a 7-8 on a scale of 10, I would agree. Previously, we slept on a very soft 4 inch memory foam topper on top of a double pillowtop mattress which was akin to sleeping on a giant marshmallow so maybe it wouldn't seem that firm to someone else. I notice as I lay on it that after a few minutes the mattress conforms to my body, there are no pressure points. Being too hot wasn't a concern at all, perhaps due to the top cooling layer of the mattress. We both slept well last night though it will take a few more nights to reach an official verdict. It can be returned within 30 days. If you buy it, make sure to save your receipt as there is a 20 year warranty.

I never thought to ask if that meant unopened, perhaps it was my mistake to assume their lenient return policy applied and now I'm hoping we really love that mattress we bought yesterday. I don't know if Aldi sponsors reviews but I have no connection to Aldi other than it being a store where I shop. I gave my review hoping to help others since the reviews here helped me. btw, when it says "This comment has been removed by the author" it means the person who wrote the post, not the owner of the blog. I got that message twice when I tried to correct spelling and grammar errors on my posts. Once you post, you can't change your post without getting that message.

  50. Appreciate all these helpful reviews. One question I have not seen asked, and no mention of is: What is best/easiest way to get rid of old mattress when buying a new one from Aldi? How have you buyers been handling this? If bought at major dept. store, store normally will remove old mattress when delivering new; and to my knowledge, charities will not accept used mattresses, even if in good clean condition.

  52. Just purchased a mattress at Aldi's this week. At first I thought the mattress was hard, but the first night I slept on it I told myself listen to how your body responds to the mattress not how the mattress responds to you. I woke up this next morning with less body pain the normal after a really good night sleep it's been almost a week of sleeping on the bed and we've noticed not only do we have less joint pain of a morning and we don't wake up stiff but we don't snore my husband or myself. If one of us gets up to go to the bathroom it doesn't wake the other one or disturb it doesn't shake the whole bed. My husband who had trouble getting out of bed of a morning is now waking up before me and I'm an early riser but he's waking up rested not in pain and not stiff it's amazing to us that a mattress from Aldi's would make such a big difference. I mean it's a grocery store not a mattress store.

  57. I doubt it. I have a twin foam mattress that was the same way. It was sealed up tight in plastic. Once the mattress is deflated, I don't think there is a way to compress them back into the plastic. You tear up the plastic with a knife or scissors pretty quickly.

  76. I purchased this Aldi mattress in September 2017 in king size after reading this review. Got the last one in my state! Had to drive 2 hours to the store that had it and got it at clearance price. Omg, for the first time in 15 years, hubby and i both sleep and wake without pain. This year i got 3 twin, one for my guest room and 2 for sons house. Im still waiting fornthe queen size ones to come out this year. I meed one for my 2nd guest room!

  77. The urgent thing to consider when acquiring a flexible foam futon is the span of the mattress. For more info you may check it by yourself here beddingnbeyond

  78. We have been through so many beds! The most expensive being a 3K bed that was so bad that it made our limbs go numb at night! This mattress is by far my favorite ever! I can't sleep on coil or spring beds at all. The mattress was not hot in my opinion. I have slept on memory foam before that was scorching despite the "cooling technology" it boasted. Do yourself a favor and get this one!

  79. This is soft! I bought this mattress after reading all the glowing reviews here. For me at least, it is way too soft, even softer than the ancient, worn innerspring mattress it replaced. I wake up with backaches and have trouble sleeping through the night. If I sit on the edge to put on my socks, I sink way down into it -- and I am not fat; I'm 6-2 and 195 pounds. If you like a firm mattress, this is not for you.

  80. I am going to buy this mattress tomorrow!!! I am so excited. I like my bed know, but I only sleep in one spot and it sags sooooo much! I have to fling my self up to get out of bed! Lol I was wondering though, will this mattress fit on an ikea bed frame and with slats? I don't have a box spring! Thank you :) can't wait

    1. You don't need a box spring! An Ikea bed frame should work great. I use a wire grid platform

    2. it is 60" w X 80" L and 10" deep.
I suggest go to Lowes or HD, buy a sheet of 3/8 plywood, not pressure treated.... that is, buy interior grade, maybe even birch ply on the good surface... have them rip two cuts in the 4'x8' sheet so that you end up with two 3' x 4' sheets to transport in car and use and a scrap piece about 2' x 4' to use for whatever... a shelf in bottom of closet to put shoes under and on top? LOL. 4' x 6' should cover most of your base atop your slats. This will distribute weight too to lessen chance of snapping a slat in half. HALF inch ply may be better. If you have a truck, I would keep in one piece... have them cut it down from 8 ft. to about 6 ft but no more than what will fit in your IDEA frame area over slats.

    3. oh... forgot. I would duct tape the seam where the two cut pieces meet in the middle with two layers of duct tape to avoid any chafing of the bottom of the foam mattress cover due to rough cut-edge and weight moving on that cut over time. Also, they do sell pre cut pieces, more expensive, and maybe have pre-cut half inch ply at 3' X4' pieces. Ask the store workers there.

  81. Anyone have info on the offgassing this mattress puts out? Or if the company uses chemicals vs. plant-based materials?

    1. urethane foam matteresses are man made material and I think slightly flame retardant. vs. Latex or other matteresses. I think the Latex foam are most flamable and, more or less plant-based unless they use synthetic laytex due to cost of nhatural. So...... who knows of others. The Urethane ones are all man made or hybrid with latex layer also. My Pillow pillows use urethane foam and my cool gel foam pillows I got at Kohls are as well. I like those. I may buy the Huntington Home one on clearance today after reading this blog. Now down from $249 queen to $159 queen. I could wait to see if they go down further but the drive is a bit long. Early bird and worm.... do not wanna miss it. I love to buy clearance items at Aldi and Kohls. I think I may buy a small generator on clearance today as well at Aldi!!!!! I bought a big old RV and am fitting it out. The matteress will go in there. Macy's sheets on Black Friday are best value....for about $10/set. 60"x80"

    2. PS::: part of me thinks maybe this is an ALDI site to push the product... I do not know....... I am always suspicious of ONLINE marketing and sales. The internet can be good but is MOSTLY BAD.
