Best Coffee Picks at ALDI: Product Review

Taking someone else's word for coffee is like sending someone else to try on shoes for you. I have held off on writing a coffee review since I know everyone's taste is different. I am by no means a coffee-snob, but maybe if I give you an idea of the coffees I typically like, then you can get an idea how your taste compares to mine. At Starbuck's I order the Blonde Roast as I find the others to be too bitter and strong for my taste. Before I started shopping at ALDI we purchased a medium roast Seattle's Best and Dunkin Donuts (my husband's fav.) for our home drip. I enjoy flavored coffee as long as it is mild and doesn't go overboard with an artificial tasting flavor. I do not care for Folgers or Maxwell House or whatever is brewed in the waiting rooms of auto repair shops. Clear as mud?

 1. Best Daily Drip: Specialty Selected Regular Roasted Ground Coffee: This is my go-to everyday coffee that we make in the morning. It is one of the ALDI "Fan Favorites" which is why we gave it a try in the first place. We served it at Thanksgiving and got complimented on the quality. $4.99/12 oz. = $.42 per ounce. (Update 3/21/15 - This coffee is now labeled "German Roasted Ground Coffee" - same stuff, still awesome.)

 2. Best "K-Cup" Style Coffee: SimplyNature Organic Medium Roast (Cups-Keurig Compatible): Fair Trade Certified and USDA Organic, this one is our choice for our Keurig machine. It's a steal of a deal for cups at $4.99/12 or $.42 per cup. I was happy that ALDI rolled out an affordable and quality cup-based coffee.

3. Best Flavored Coffee: Barissimo Salted Caramel or Pumpkin Spice: Carolyn loves the Salted Caramel and I bought my store out of the Pumpkin Spice in the fall when it was marked down. $3.99/12 oz. makes it $.33 per ounce.

Are there any ALDI coffees you love?

Comments

  1. Just tried the Harvest Spice coffee but it was $4.99 at my new Aldi (formerly BottomDollar). Great quality. I'm a dark roast snob and this was a dark but very complex flavor. I can imagine it would go well with all the Thanksgiving fare as it's spicy, not smoky, not real overwhelmingly dark .... really, coming from a S*a*b*c*s groupie I will never buy their stuff again (unless it's at Ross' or some discount warehouse).

  2. Not much has changed since the last comments. My wife likes their Barrisimo Colombian k cups. I prefer the dark roast. It has a deeper flavor without tasting burned. Have not tried their bagged coffee.

  4. Get the super cheap Daily Basics extra large can for $4.99 for the office morning pot of coffee. Brews hearty but very light on the taste side...has the needed dosage of caffeine.

  5. I just got a package of the German Roasted Regular... it seems very finely ground... Almost like an espresso grind... Is that what you found?

  6. Has anyone tried Barissimo Caramel Macchiato? My sister gave me some and it's exquisite!!

  9. The Blonde Roast is great. They only had it as a "Find" item in a 48 count box. I have not seen it since.
